Mad Vladimir Putin has not been seen in public since November 7, with rumours circulating in his native Russia on why the president has not been seen for 13 days

Vladimir Putin's unexplained absence for nearly two weeks is reportedly due to a "medical examination" and "health treatment", according to reports sources. The alleged disappearance comes amid escalating tensions over nuclear war threats from his regime, linked to British and US long-range Storm Shadow and ATACMS missiles used by Ukraine against targets in Russia.

Despite Putin appearing on TV daily in meetings, there is compelling evidence that these one-on-one sessions were pre-recorded, say independent Russian media analysts. The 72-year-old Kremlin leader has not been seen at a public event since November 7.

"Putin has disappeared from the public eye for the longest period in three years," reported Agentsvo independent media outlet today. And now, Telegram channel VChK-OGPU, known for its security service links, has suggested the reason is medical.

"Indeed, Putin has been absent from work recently and receives all reports exclusively via special communications," it reported today. "Those close to him are given the same standard answer in such cases: ‘He is undergoing a medical examination and a regular course of general health improvement.’ But no one knows how things are there in reality, and where he is."

The channel stated this claim about Putin’s health came from its own source, with no confirmation from official sources. There has previously been speculation that the Russian leader has suffered from cancer, and he is known to travel with a cancer doctor in his entourage.

Several years ago, rumours circulated about Putin's early stage Parkinson’s disease when his hand was seen shaking and he was often observed gripping desks or chairs tightly. However, recently, there have been no such episodes and this year he has travelled extensively within Russia and to "friendly" countries.

During the Covid era and its immediate aftermath, Putin remained isolated with extreme caution taken to quarantine individuals he met with. "Vladimir Putin has not appeared at public events for 13 days," reported Agentsvo.

"This is a record period of absence of the Russian president from the public space for at least the last three years."

A day earlier, Faridaily Telegram channel, run by journalist Farida Rustamova, analysed televised meetings Putin has held since November 7, and found them to be pre-recorded or "canned". This means ordinary Russians do not notice he is missing.

On November 7 he spoke at the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi, but the Kremlin has not yet commented on Putin’s evident absence from the public arena but routinely describes him as in robust health and capable of gruelling workloads.
