Harry Kane emulated David Beckham's memorable halfway-line goal against Wimbledon as he scored a stunning strike for Bayern Munich against Darmstadt

Harry Kane scored from inside his own half in Bayern Munich's rout of Darmstadt.

The England captain put his Bundesliga side 5-0 up at the Allianz Arena after taking aim from way out and lobbing opposition goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen. He went on to complete his hat-trick in an 8-0 victory.

His second goal, which was reminiscent of David Beckham's similar finish for Manchester United against Wimbledon in August 1996, was quickly hailed by fans online.

One argued: "Must be the goal of the season." Another commented: "Craziest football goal I’ve seen in years. From the middle of the pitch, Harry Kane for you."

"The best striker in the world at the moment," claimed a third, while a fourth exclaimed: "What’s with English players with goals from the own half? Started with Beckham then Rooney and now him."

Remarkably, the game had been goalless after a first half which saw three red cards brandished. Joshua Kimmich was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity after less than four minutes.

Darmstadt had both Klaus Gjasula and Matej Maglica given their marching orders however, and the hosts made the man advantage pay after the break.

Kane got the scoring underway before Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala made it three-nil inside the first 15 minutes of the second half. Sane netted a fourth before Kane's stunner.

Thomas Muller added a sixth before Musiala grabbed his second of the game, with Kane rounding off the win late on. He's now got 14 goals and seven assists in 13 matches since moving to Germany.

The three points took Bayern to the top of the table, although Bayer Leverkusen could return to the summit when they face Freiburg on Sunday (October 29).
