Man City kit choice branded 'disgusting' as furious fans say 'heads should roll'
Man City have done battle with their cross-city rival Man Utd in the Community Shield. But aside from the disallowed goals, it is a font choice made on the Blues' new home kit that has captured the most attention
Football fans have reacted in fury after spotting a controversial choice Man City has made for their new home kits.
The reigning Premier League champions are doing battle with their cross-city rivals Manchester United in the Community Shield at Wembley. But it's not the action on the pitch that has captured fans' attention so much as the new City home kit - and one element in particular.
The font on the back of the City shirts has been branded "a disgrace" and "worse than Comic Sans" despite the fact the new kit choice came about through a collaboration with Oasis frontman - and big City fan - Noel Gallagher.
Taking to Twitter, or X as it's now known, fans were quick to vent their dislike of the child-like font.
One said: "The font on the back of the Man City strip is an absolute disgrace. Heads should roll over this. Shameful."
Another meanwhile added: "Never thought we’d ever see the day lads, but it’s here… Manchester City have managed to find a worse font than Comic Sans."
And it's not just rival fans who are put out by the kit choice. One City fan said: "As a Man City fan and marketing nerd, I have to share my disgust at the choice of font on this year's kit. We deserve better than Comic Sans."
It is music legend Noel Gallagher who actually devised the controversial script, which will feature in every FA Cup, Champions League and Carabao Cup game this season.
On the pitch, meanwhile, the Community Shield has left a fair amount to be desired. While Bruno Fernandes saw a stunning goal ruled out for offside and Marcus Rashford hit the post, neither of the Manchester teams truly impressed in the curtain-raiser to the Premier League season, which begins on Friday night when the Red Devils host Fulham at Old Trafford.
