Viral baby hippo Moo Deng predicts US election results – and causes quite a stir
Viral pygmy hippo Moo Deng from Thailand has given her all-important predictions for the elections, however, people are left divided over what she's trying to say
Much-loved viral pygmy hippo Moo Deng may have Democrats to answer to after predicting that Donald Trump would win the US election.
Not that our readers need reminding, but, Moo Deng is a baby pygmy hippo living at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo who has taken the internet by storm in recent months, with her cute antics and sassy attitude catapulting her to viral fame online. And it seems that the star has a flair for politics, too. Presented with two (watermelon) cakes, one with Trump's name carved into it, and one with Harris', Moo Deng tore into the Trump cake.
Moo Deng, which translates to 'Bouncy Pork' in Thai, decided to eat the Trump cake and while a photo of the calf was posted online, some people think she's actually saying "eat the rich" instead of saying that's who she thinks will win.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) shared by social media site Pop Crave, they posted the image of Moo Deng and said: "Moo Deng predicts Donald Trump will win US Election. The famous baby hippo was presented with separate cakes featuring both candidate's names, ultimately choosing to eat the Trump cake."
However, content creator and TikToker Ashley Smalls replied with an alternative meaning. She said: "We're looking at this wrong. She literally ate Trump.
"She's saying eat the rich." People were quick to agree with Ashley's take on the matter, as one person commented: "That was my interpretation as well."
Another took the same interpretation as Ashley and further explained on the Pop Crave post: "This was a misinterpretation. Moo Deng was trying to express the saying of 'eating the rich', therefore eating Donald Trump, signifying he wants him out of the presidental race and in turn endorsing Kamala Harris."
However, others agreed with Moo Deng's prediction as one Trump fan wrote: "Everyone is morally obligated to vote Trump now; you don't want to disappoint Moo Deng, do you?"
The hippo began her trek to internet stardom when her caretakers began uploading videos of her going about her day. Many of the videos uploaded to the internet involve the hippo napping, walking around her enclosure and even one of her chewing her caretaker's knee as they hose her down.
