Armed officers rushed to the scene in Huntingdon where 'multiple' people had been stabbed on a train. It is believed the incident occurred on the train, with two men arrested once it reached the station

Police are currently responding to a major incident on a UK train where multiple people have been stabbed. It was later confirmed that 10 people had been injured with 9 of those fighting for life.

The incident has occurred on a LNER train heading to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, this evening (November 1), according to police. The authorities have arrested two men after the train was stopped at the station, after police 'ran' to the scene. It is believed that a number of people have been taken to hospital.

Police confirmed that 30 officers are in attendance at Huntingdon station. British Transport Police said on X: "We are currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed.

"Officers are in attendance alongside @CambsCops and two people have been arrested. Further updates will be shared here."

The police later confirmed that the train involved was the 6.25pm service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross.

A man who was travelling on the train told Sky News he saw an “extremely bloodied” victim and that he believes a suspect was tasered.

Only named as Gavin, he said: “I was in coach G, and there was quite a few people coming through coach G, and one of the people that were coming through, I heard them say: ‘They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed’.

“They were making their way through the carriage to get away from the incident, from the suspect. They were extremely bloodied. That person ended up when we pulled in, they were basically on the floor. We couldn’t progress further down the train away from the suspect, because that person ended up collapsing on the floor.”

One witness told The Sun: “There was blood everywhere, it was a terrible scene, really violent. It was like something from a film.

“It didn’t feel real and just sparked pure panic on board."

Another said people were getting “stamped” on by others as they tried to flee.

Huntingdon station is currently closed while the police and other emergency services attend to the scene, with no trains calling at the destination.

The Huntingdonshire force released a statement on their official Facebook page, Policing Huntingdonshire, and said: "We were called at 7.39pm with reports that multiple people had been stabbed on a train.

"Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital.

"The incident remains ongoing and the A1307 has been closed as you approach the town centre.

"Officers are working with British Transport Police, who are leading on the incident." The authorities have urged that anyone with any information should report this online at Cambs Police by quoting incident 495 of today (1 November).

If you cannot access the internet, then it is advised to call 101 with any relevant information.

It is believed that the stabbing took place on a LNER service from London King's Cross to Doncaster, before the train was able to pass through Huntingdon.

LNER (London North Eastern Railway) released a statement and said: "We are aware of an incident involving one of our trains. Our immediate concern is for the welfare of our customers and crew who are on board.

"We are in the process of gathering all the details we can and are liaising with British Transport Police." Operators with services that stop or pass through Huntingdon have announced updates to their passengers.

A LNER spokesperson said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Huntingdon all lines are blocked.

"Train services running through this station may be delayed. Disruption is expected until the end of the day. Please check before you travel."

Thameslink also shared an update on X, advising passengers travelling to or from Huntingdon to find an alternative route. The statement reads: "At this time, Huntingdon station is closed and no trains will call here in either direction until further notice. If you are travelling FROM Huntingdon, you will need to use an alternative route of travel or travel later on today where possible.

"If you are travelling to Huntingdon, From Peterborough, please speak to station staff and alternative travel will be arranged. From the direction of Hitchin, please instead travel to St Neots/Peterborough and speak to staff for alternative transport. You should allow 30 minutes additional to complete your destination."

A 'large-scale' response was mobilised to the train station, the East of England Ambulance Service shared, with confirmation that "numerous" have been taken to hospital. A spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.38pm to reports that multiple people had been stabbed on a train.

"We mobilised a large-scale response to Huntingdon Railway Station which included numerous ambulances, tactical commanders, our Hazardous Area Response Team and critical care teams including the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"We can confirm we have transported multiple patients to hospital. Further updates will be issued by British Transport Police."

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has now commented on what he calls an "appalling incident." He said: "The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with all those affected and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response.

"Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police."

MP for Huntington, Ben Obese-Jecty, took to X to note that he is "aware of the incident" and is actively "trying to establish further information."

He added that his "thoughts are with the victims and those involved."

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp MP has now shared a statement to X, it reads: "Horrific scenes in Huntingdon, in what seems to be a brutal mass attack by two perpetrators.

"My thoughts are with all those injured or affected and the emergency services responding.

"The police and government should provide an update on what happened and who has been arrested as soon as possible."
