Ralf Rangnick identifies same 'selfish' parts of Man Utd dressing room as Jose Mourinho
Ralf Rangnick is said to have identified a dressing room concern at Manchester United that was first discovered by Jose Mourinho during his time at Old Trafford
Ralf Rangnick and his Manchester United targets are being held back by a 'selfish element' of the dressing room that was first discovered by Jose Mourinho.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss won the League Cup and Europa League during his debut season, was sacked following 84 wins from 144 matches having won no further trophies.
Mourinho had no problem in blaming players following his eventual departure in December of 2018, with his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failing to turn things around despite initial optimism.
The latest manager to try and find a solution to the lasting confusion at Old Trafford is Rangnick, but it is said that he has already come across a stumbling block as did one of his predecessors.
According to the Mail, Rangnick had identified a 'selfish element among the United dressing room' who are allegedly not willing to pull together for the good of the team.
They add that it was in fact Mourinho who first detected this issue, and that it could play a key part in stopping United progressing on the pitch.
The former RB Leipzig coach won three and drew two of his first five matches in the dugout following Michal Carrick's speak as caretaker - but their old problems returned during their defeat to Wolves.
Rangnick told the media after Joao Moutinho's 82nd-minute winner: "We didn't play well at all, neither individually nor collectively.
"In the first half, we had big problems to keep them away from our box and from our goal. In the second half, we changed to a different formation, with a back three, and we had more control on the game.
"The game showed that we have a lot of work to do, especially against the ball. We had too many unforced errors and we have to get better. This is an issue of the whole team."
Adding of his outlook going forward: "The game showed we still have a lot of work to do and still have to take quite a few steps, both collectively and individually, especially against the ball, but in the first half in particular, in possession of the ball, there were too many unforced errors, too many giveaways.
"In those parts of the game, we just have to get better. I don't want to speak about individual performances of players, it is an issue of the whole team.
"We can only improve the team if we get better collectively. It doesn't make sense now to talk about individual performances."
