Two arrests have been made and multiple dogs and £37,500 of cash seized after a dog attack in Leigh, Greater Manchester claimed the life of 37-year-old dad Jonathan Hogg

Police have seized 15 dogs and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime after a father of three was mauled to death.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police seized the animals, including nine puppies, and arrested a second person in relation to the death in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

The arrests and seizures come following an attack that saw a man, 37-year-old Jonathan Hogg, mauled to death.

The dogs were seized from two separate homes following the death on Thursday (May 18).

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement released on Twitter: “GMP have made a second arrest and seized 15 dogs in relation to the dog attack which led to the death of 37-year-old Jonathan Hogg on Westleigh Lane in #Leigh

“Items totalling a value of £37,500 believed to be the result of criminal proceeds have been seized.”

Mr Hogg was killed by an “out of control” American Bully XL, which would later be shot by police.

The dog is understood to have not been the property of the deceased, although may have been looking after it on behalf of someone else.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody on Friday (May 19) on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing injury resulting in death.

Then, that evening a woman, 22, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Detective Chief Inspector John Davies said: “GMP officers searched two houses and seized 15 dogs (six adults and nine puppies) believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Jonathan. These dogs are now being cared for at a specialist facility.

“Items totalling a value of £37,500 believed to be the result of criminal proceeds have been seized.”

Appealing to the public for information, Det Supt Hurst added: "You can report information to GMP on 101 quoting log 3769 of 18/05/2023. You can also report information to us online using the ‘report’ tool: www.gmp.police.uk.

"Alternatively, you can report information to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
