Chaos erupted on the London Underground after one man threw a drink at someone up the stairs and was then hounded by a woman with a handbag and a man in a white tank top

A mass brawl broke out on the London Underground between Notting Hill Carnival revellers in front of screaming members of the public. The brawl, captured on camera, was sparked by one man throwing a drink which prompted a woman to chase after him with her flailing handbag.

In a video uploaded to X, the fight happened inside Baker Street station as a man in a brightly coloured carnival costume launches a drink up the stairs towards an unknown person before a woman wearing a leopard print dress surges towards him with her bag.

He then runs away but is chased by the woman and another man as onlookers laugh and scream around the mayhem.

The first man then runs onto a train and stands on a seat before he is followed by a man in a white tank top so precedes to land several body blows as a crowd of people film through the tube windows.

The man is then dragged out of the train but the woman enters it and continues to scream and rant before she too is pulled back out into the station.

Notting Hill Carnival, hailed as Europe’s biggest street festival, happened over the bank holiday weekend and police revealed a crackdown on bad behaviour that led to over 400 arrests.

The Met Police said a total of 423 people were arrested across the two days – 200 on Sunday and 223 on Monday – which was up from 349 last year.

There were two stabbings at the festival on Bank Holiday Monday but it’s been reported neither resulted in life-threatening injuries and cops claimed there were ‘far fewer’ incidents of serious violence during this year’s celebrations.

Last year there were two murders and eight stabbings.

The force said last night: “The event is still in its latter stages and we are not being at all complacent, but we have seen far fewer incidents of serious violence than in recent years.”

Assistant Commissioner Matt Ward added: "This year we have proactively targeted those who have attempted to come to Carnival to cause harm to others. We have used live facial recognition, knife arches and our stop-and-search powers to identify and arrest more than 400 suspects.

"These arrests have prevented some of the serious violence we have seen at previous Carnivals."

Transport for London has been contacted for a comment.
