Manchester United are set to beat Premier League rivals Chelsea to the signing of highly-rated England youth international Harry Amass - with a swap deal suggested by a cheeky fan

Manchester United look set to secure the signing of England youth international Harry Amass despite interest from Chelsea - and one fan has a cheeky swap deal planned.

United are reportedly in advanced talks with Watford over the signing of the 16-year-old, who made their first-team squad at the age of just 15 back in January.

The left-back is said to have been enticed by the Old Trafford approach, having been tracked by other sides including Chelsea since his England breakthrough in 2021.

The Standard report news of the talks, tipping United to have the edge of big-spenders Chelsea after he tasted silverware in the UEFA Development tournament last month.

One cheeky fan has since suggested a swap deal for Harry Maguire, who cost the club £80million when joining from Leicester in 2019.

Watford fans were more concerned about the exit of Amass, who many see as the best youth prospect at the club.

A fan posted: "We should close our academy at this point. No longer seeing any benefit from it for us."

A second agreed: "Another prime example of why there are few benefits of having an academy system for smaller clubs."

Erik ten Hag has his United side seven places above Graham Potter's Chelsea with 12 and 11 games left of their respective Premier League seasons.

The Dutchman also guided United to silverware in the form of the Carabao Cup, while still in contention in both the FA Cup and Europa League.

With Chelsea looking to climb up the table, Watford sit 10th in the Championship under new boss Chris Wilder who has won, drawn, and lost across his first three games.
