EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United fans calling for Jose Mourinho to come back to Old Trafford and replace the under pressure Ruben Amorim are 'lazy', says a Premier League-winning Red Devils legend

Manchester United fans calling for Jose Mourinho to return are “lazy,” according to Premier League winner Paul Parker.

Talk of Mourinho making a sensational return to Old Trafford started on Friday morning after the Portuguese boss was sacked by Fenerbahce following defeat in a Champions League qualifier against Benfica, which proved to be the final straw of a tense summer in Istanbul after Mourinho had criticised the club’s transfer strategy just weeks ago.

A video of Mourinho previously talking about his next club after leaving Fenerbahce was soon shared on social media, in which, the 62-year-old insisted he would return to the Premier League to a team not in a European competition and at the bottom of the table.

Given United’s woeful 15th place finish last season, and the pressure mounting on Ruben Amorim, some fans suggested bringing back the man who won the Europa League and League Cup at Old Trafford in 2017, after winning three Premier League titles with Chelsea.

But the idea of Mourinho even being considered by United fans is something that shows just how far the Reds have fallen, according to two-time Premier League winner and Red Devils legend Parker.

Speaking to Daily Star Sport on behalf of online casino affiliate Casino.org , the former England defender said: “It shouldn't be thought about, but again, the most talked about team in the world is Manchester United.

“People might argue at Real Madrid, but Real Madrid we talk about as a football club, and everything else goes with it. But when it comes about getting people to look at stuff, you put Manchester United in there and everyone would look.

“To people now, nostalgia has gone to where before it was going back to Champions League 2008, then 1999, even going back to maybe when we done the first double in 1993/94.

“At the moment, nostalgia for Manchester United fans is when Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] was in charge, and Ole got to semi-finals and couldn't get past the semi-final.

“So that's what we're talking about. Fans now are even too lazy to really go back to when United were really successful. They're talking about Ole. Now they're talking about Jose.

“Oh, he's a winner, I've heard it on the radio today. Well, no, he hasn't recently, he's been quite poor, but he did it before, so he's still pedigreed with him.

Along with his three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups in his two spells at Chelsea, Mourinho lifted famous league, cup and Champions League trebles with Porto and Inter Milan, before beating Pep Guardiola's legendary Barcelona side to a La Liga title with Real Madrid.

But since his spell at Old Trafford ended, his solitary success has been the Europa Conference League with Roma. He leaves Fenerbahce after just over 12 months in Turkey, having finished second in the Super Lig last season, 11 points behind champions Galatasaray.
