Liverpool fans lose their minds as Manchester-based referee appointed for Man City game
Liverpool fans have fumed that their Premier League clash with Manchester City is 'corruption at its peak' after Manchester-based referee Anthony Taylor has been appointed for the clash
Liverpool fans have fumed at the decision to appoint Anthony Taylor as the referee for their crunch clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds have a crucial Premier League fixture with Pep Guardiola's side that could decide the title race come May. However, Liverpool fans have been left fuming after Manchester-based official Taylor has been appointed as the man in the middle.
Taylor was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester, but he has confirmed on numerous occasions he supports Altrincham. That hasn't stopped Reds fans from claiming it 'couldn’t be clearer what PGMOL wants' with the biggest game of the season on the horizon.
"A Manchester-born ref. I don't know why the FA loves doing this all the time. Almost like they feed off the controversy," one fan fumed. While a second tweeted: "This a wind up? April fools [was] last week!"
Another fumed: "Biggest game of the season and they’ve got Taylor reffing and Tierney on VAR. This is fraudulent couldn’t be clearer what PGMOL wants."
"Corruption at its peak in the Premier League. Might as well hand them over the league title," a fourth added.

City and Liverpool are locked in a title race that looks set to go down to the wire with Guardiola's side currently one point ahead.
