Gun-firing robot dogs revealed by China as latest weapon in 'Black Mirror' warfare
China has revealed it's latest military weapon during a recent training drill — they've turned man's best friend into a lethal killing machine as they show of a gun-mounted robotic dog
China has turned man’s best friend into a killing machine as soldiers unveiled the latest in battlefield technology.
The nation’s military revealed that a gun-mounted robotic dog is its newest weapon during recent military drills with Cambodia.
Looking like a prop out of the dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror, the futuristic robot dog, armed with an automatic rifle attached to its back, is a killing machine.
In a clip made by China’s state broadcaster, CCTV, a soldier named Chen Wei said the robot dog will help troops on reconnaissance missions and help identify enemies.
He said: “It can serve as a new member in our urban combat operations, replacing our [human] members to conduct reconnaissance and identify [the] enemy and strike the target”.
In the video, the dog joins soldiers during the Golden Dragon 2024 military exercise and can be seen walking, hopping, lying down and moving backwards, controlled by a soldier using a remote control. It also leads a unit into a building as part of a drill.
The robotic animal is one of China’s “variety of intelligent unmanned” military equipment, reports CNN, and it’s not even the first robot dog to stand by the side of soldiers.
CCTV showed rifle-armed robotic dogs used in exercises involving several military forces, including China, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, in November 2023.
The US has also used robotic dogs to detect and counter threats to military assets, CNN reports.
The news follows reports that China is building a massive space army, that seems to be straight out of Star Wars.
The Daily Star reports that US space chiefs warned China had "tripled the number of intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance satellites in orbit".
Experts are now concerned this space fleet could be used to advance military goals on the ground.
With the ability to blast targets from thousands of miles away, even around the curvature of the Earth, these satellites could identify targets for submarines to then hit with missiles.
