Around 100 firefighters have attended the scene in London's White City, with 15 fire engines from nearby stations having been called to the blaze shortly before 3.15am this morning

The former BBC television centre has gone up in flames as around 100 firefighters tackle the blaze.

Some 15 fire engines attended the scene after a fire broke out affecting the nine-storey building's top floors. Crews from Hammersmith, North Kensington, Kensington, Chiswick and surrounding fire stations descended on the area in London's White City in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, September 6)

One person was treated by paramedics who were called shortly before 3.15am, the London Ambulance Service confirmed.

The building was the BBC's headquarters until 2013, before it moved to its current location of Broadcasting House in Portland Place and Langham Place.

In an update at around 8am, the fire brigade confirmed the blaze was affecting the building's top floors.

As of the latest update, a restaurant, external decking and ducting are still on fire. A spokesperson also said a number of flats have been affected by the blaze.

Two 32-metre turntable ladders are being deployed to extinguish the fire from height, as have the Brigade's drone team, "providing the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the fire."

Wood Lane is closed to traffic and people have been advised to avoid the area.

A post to X by the London Fire Brigade read: "Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters have been called to a fire involving a mixed-use building on Wood Lane in White City.

"We're asking people to avoid the area as this incident will remain ongoing for some time. More to follow."

A second update read: "Crews continue to work at the scene of a fire in White City. The fire is in a mixed-use building, with a restaurant and external decking among the areas of the building currently alight.

"Please avoid the area."

Taking to the social network shortly after 8am, the fire brigade said they expected crews would remain at the scene throughout the day.

"Firefighters continue to work to extinguish the fire affecting a mixed-use building in White City," the post said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
