A prison officer has appeared in court alleged to have formed an intimate relationship with an inmate, which lasted little over a week around this time last year
A female prison officer at a men's jail in Wales was today accused of having an illicit relationship with a prisoner.
Jessica McCleary, 28, from Froncysyllte, Llangollen, faced Wrexham magistrates charged with misconduct in public office. The alleged relationship took place at Berwyn jail, Wrexham, with inmate Levi Weekes.
The court heard allegations that McCleary had entered into a relationship with Weekes between October 25 and November 4 last year.
It was revealed by prosecutor Justin Espie that the relationship was revealed after love notes between the pair were recovered. She has been bailed and will appear before Mold Crown Court next month, with a pre-sentencing report ordered in the meantime.
