David Beckham has been dealt a royal snub by the honours committee once again as the former England captain was left out of the 2022 New Year Honours list, despite reports suggesting otherwise

David Beckham has missed out on a knighthood once again after being left out of the 2022 New Year Honours list.

The former Manchester United and England legend, who received an OBE back in 2003, is a national sporting icon but has not been made a 'Sir' by her majesty the Queen.

And while other sportspeople have been included in the list, it appears Beckham will miss out on the honour in yet another royal snub.

That comes despite reports this week that the 46-year-old will be formally nominated after having his finances cleared by the taxman, 10 years after being embroiled in a tax-avoidance scheme.

The Sun claimed the former Red Devils winger's status has therefore been upgraded from red - which previously meant he was barred from recognition - to green.

According to the report, Beckham was caught in the Ingenious tax avoidance scheme ten years ago and was since blacklisted by the Inland Revenue.

In another blow to his knighthood hopes, Beckham's emails were later hacked in 2017 and he was accused of calling the honours committee 'unappreciative c****' in the leaks for failing to make him a 'Sir'.

And while some expected him to finally be knighted after clearing up his tax troubles, Beckham has been handed another cruel blow despite his accomplishments and notable charity work.

Do you think David Beckham will ever receive a knighthood? Let us know in the comments section.

Meanwhile, Married Olympians Laura and Jason Kenny are set to receive a damehood and knighthood in the same honours list, for services to cycling.

The couple won a gold and a silver medal each at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on their way to becoming the most successful male and female Team GB Olympians.

Likewise, 2021 BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner Emma Radacanu has been recognised for her achievements in tennis and will be awarded an MBE.
