Chelsea striker Sam Kerr was shown a yellow card after making contact with a supporters who stormed the pitch to try and get selfies with the home team against Juventus

Sam Kerr was shown a yellow card after taking matters into her own hands to deal with a pitch invader during Chelsea’s Champions League tie against Juventus on Wednesday night.

Kerr was in the headlines on Sunday after scoring twice in the Blues’ 3-0 win over Arsenal in the Women’s FA Cup final.

The Australian striker put in a superb display, capping a dominant performance from Emma Hayes’ side with a stunning chipped finish at Wembley.

Kerr’s impact was slightly different at Kingsmeadow in midweek as she was disciplined by the referee for an unusual reason.

An over-exuberant supporter got onto the pitch to try and get a selfie with Chelsea defender Magda Eriksson and Kerr herself.

He got more than he bargained for as a frustrated Kerr barged him to the ground to help the stewards catch him and remove him from the pitch.

The incident summed up a frustrating night for Chelsea, who failed to make their dominance pay in the 0-0 draw in their penultimate Champions League group game.

The hosts twice hit the woodwork, while Kerr also had a goal ruled out for offside as their 75% possession and 25 shots did not count for anything.

The draw means Chelsea now need to get a result from their final Group A game against Wolfsburg next Thursday.

Meanwhile, Juventus have the advantage because they face Swiss side Servette – a team who have scored none and conceded 19 in their five games so far.

Chelsea will look to put their disappointment behind them when they travel to face Reading in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

After eight games Hayes’ side are still in pursuit of a treble, sitting a point behind leaders Arsenal in the league.
