Arsenal fans fume as Leandro Trossard screamer ruled out by 'rigged' VAR

The Gunners had a goal ruled out in the first half of their Premier League clash with Leicester after VAR deemed there to have been a foul in the build-up to Leandro Trossard's screamer

Arsenal fans have raged over the referee’s decision to overturn Leandro Trossard’s screamer against Leicester City.

The winger thought he had netted only his second goal for the Gunners with a superb strike in the 26th minute. Trossard received the ball on the edge of the box following a corner, before thundering it into the top corner.

But his emphatic celebration was soon interrupted by referee Craig Pawson, who was advised by VAR to have another look at the build-up to the goal.

Having watched the footage back on the monitor, Pawson deemed Arsenal’s Ben White to have held goalkeeper Danny Ward’s hand down, making him unable to catch the ball before it was patted away.

And the decision unsurprisingly left Arsenal fans livid, with one Twitter user writing: “This league is rigged.”

Another tweeted: “It seems there’s always a different interpretation of decisions when it’s Arsenal on the receiving end.” And a third commented: “Absolutely scandalous. Again.”

A fourth sarcastically wrote: “That’s a great use of VAR. Well done,” while a fifth added: “Arsenal being blatantly cheated again.”

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta was again left fuming just minutes later when Bukayo Saka appeared to be brought down by two Leicester players in the box, which the referee did not deem a penalty.

Arteta could be seen angrily gesturing to Pawson, before fourth official Robert Jones came over to have a word with the Spaniard.
