Alexander Isak's WhatsApp message to ex-Newcastle team-mates and their reaction revealed
Swedish striker Alexander Isak caused uproar in the North East as he forced through his £125million move to Liverpool leaving Newcastle fans seething at his actions
Dan Burn insists Alexander Isak quit Newcastle for Liverpool with the blessing of Eddie Howe's squad.
And in a move that risks the anger of his own supporters, Burn says he doesn't blame Isak for forcing through a move to Anfield. Newcastle have suffered a summer of turmoil dealing with Isak's determination to join the Premier League champions.
The saga dragged on for weeks, with Isak even going on strike before securing a British-record £125m switch to Liverpool ahead of deadline day. The controversial transfer has left Newcastle fans seething.
But Burn - who grew up supporting the Magpies - has revealed Newcastle's players spoke to Isak and had no problem with him wanting to leave St James' Park for Arne Slot's men.
Isak, 25, swapped messages on the squad's WhatsApp group and thanked his former team-mates for all the happy memories they shared together.
Burn, 33, said: "Alex is my mate at the end of the day, so it was a tough situation, but I'm glad that we're getting a good return on a player that we've had, and he's getting the move that he wanted.
"He put a message in the chat just saying that he was leaving, and thanks for the memories, all that sort of stuff, and the lads replied. Yeah, of course [it was all positive].
"Alex is getting what he wants, and now we've just got to focus and do what we can with the players that we've got.
"It has brought us closer, really. I'm not silly, I've been around football a long time and people have short careers.
They want to max out absolutely everything they can, so there's no hard feelings from me.
"I have nothing but good wishes for Alex. I understand why our fans are frustrated, but there is no animosity."
