Truth behind Ange Postecoglou and Evangelos Marinakis 'fist fight' Forest sacking claim
Rumours of a punch-up between Ange Postecoglou and Evangelos Marinakis have swirled on social media after the manager was sacked by the club's owner minutes after their 3-0 thrashing by Chelsea
Plenty of observers predicted fireworks when Evangelos Marinakis hired Ange Postecoglou as Nuno Espirito Santo's replacement at Nottingham Forest just three games into the Premier League season.
And just five games later, following a draw and four defeats, the East Midlands side's Greek owner fired his second coach this year as he sacked the former Tottenham manager only 20 minutes after a crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea. The decision means Postecoglou now has the shortest reign in Premier League history of any permanent manager, at just 39 days.
One Spurs fan posting on X with the username 'CoysConfidential' suggested that the Australian manager, 60, met the 58-year-old Greek businessman in the tunnel at the City Ground, leading to a furious confrontation.
In a tweet that soon went viral and at the time of publishing has been viewed more than 1.6 million times, he claimed: "I'm being told that Ange Postecoglou was met by an angry, fuming Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis as he walked through the tunnel.
"Marinakis' intention wasn't to tell Ange he was fired — it started as a normal conversation and critique of his performance. But it got heated, fast.
"Marinakis snapped, telling Ange he'd lost his job. Things spiralled into a fist fight, and the two had to be separated. Both were left with visible marks on their faces — explaining why neither has been seen since."
Daily Star Sport can confirm that these claims are utter nonsense.
After applauding those fans still in the stadium at the end of the game, Postecoglou went to speak to his players.
He was then told his time in the hot seat was over and left the ground soon after.
The reality is that news of his sacking was not even relayed by Marinakis, who had left the ground long before the end of the match, after leaving his seat around the hour mark.
So once again, take everything you read on the internet with a massive pinch of salt.
