Thomas Tuchel to be named England manager after agreeing terms
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will become the first German-born manager to take the England job after it was reported that the Champions League winner agreed terms with the FA
Fomer Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become the new England manager.
The German is expected to be unveiled this week after agreeing terms with the FA.
The Times reported how the 51-year-old, who left Bayern Munich last season, decided to take the hot seat after a quick conclusion to negotiations.
Tuchel famously lifted the Champions League with Chelsea back in 2021 with a 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.
And the boss, who has also managed PSG, will become the first German-born man to take over the Three Lions.
The news of Tuchel's expected arrival is welcome news for England fans who have been waiting since July to see who would replace Gareth Southgate after the defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Tuchel is only the third foreign manager to take charge of the national team after following on from Sven Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Lee Carsley has been in interim charge of the Three Lions since Southgate's departure but after games with Finland and Greece last week, he raised doubts over whether he would even want the job on a permanent basis.
Tuchel has also been touted as a possibility to succeed the struggling Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the rest of the Old Trafford hierarchy now expected to look elsewhere if they want to replace the Dutchman.
Tuchel was approached by Mark Bullingham, the FA's chief executive, and technical director John McDermott last month. He's been out of work since being sacked by Bayern Munich, although no compensation is expected to be needed.
