Benjamin Sesko 'flying to UK for medical' as Man Utd and Newcastle told decision
Benjamin Sesko has been given permission to fly to England to undergo a medical after an agreement in principle was reached with RB Leipzig to sign the striker
Sesko emerged as United's priority signing in the striker position as Ruben Amorim looks to land a new No.9 following Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combining for just seven Premier League goals last season.
According to The Athletic, United have reached an agreement in principle with Leipzig worth €76.5m + €8.5m (£66.3m + £7.4m).
The Slovenia international has now been given permission to fly to Manchester and complete his medical with United after snubbing Newcastle.
Sesko will then sign a five-year contract where he will become United's new focal point in Amorim's revamped frontline, alongside fellow summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The 22-year-old reportedly made clear he wanted to move to United over Newcastle, despite the promise of Champions League football. It's reported that Sesko turned down more money at Newcastle and his agency have given up a significant share of their commission to make the move happen.
Eddie Howe looks set to miss out on another transfer target in a summer window that has been a rude awakening for Geordies believing the Magpies could outmuscle England's big six. While Alexander Isak continues to force a move to Liverpool.
Sesko's strong desire to join United impressed club officials, and they have now made their move after receiving the green light from the player.
The 6ft 5 striker joined RB Leipzig for a fee in the region of £20m from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023.
He has played four seasons in the Champions League across his spells with both clubs and has scored 39 goals in 87 games for Leipzig. Sesko also has 16 goals in 41 caps for Slovenia, who he played for in Euro 2024.
