Arsenal charged by FA over Myles Lewis-Skelly red card controversy against Wolves
Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card by Michael Oliver in Arsenal's 1-0 Premier League win over Wolves, with a number of Gunners players protesting the decision
The FA have charged Arsenal for their players' fiery reactions after Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the Wolves clash.
The 18-year-old's sending-off by ref Michael Oliver for a challenge on Matt Doherty was later overturned, but it's the Gunners' heated protests that have landed them in hot water.
Lewis-Skelly clattered into Doherty, and Oliver branded it 'serious foul play'. That decision has been overturned, and a statement read: "An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension."
Arsenal have now been charged for failing to keep their cool. Despite the red card, Arsenal nicked a 1-0 victory thanks to super-sub Riccardo Calafiori's goal.
An FA spokesperson said: "Arsenal FC has been charged after its players surrounded a match official during their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Saturday, 25 January.
"The club allegedly failed to ensure that its players did not behave in an improper manner around the 43rd minute. Arsenal FC has until Monday, 3 February, to provide a response," reports the Mirror.
Following the incident, Premier League referee Michael Oliver and his family have been subjected to vile abuse, with the 39-year-old official even receiving death threats.
The PGMOL - the body responsible for Premier League officials - released a statement saying: "We are appalled by the threats and abuse directed at Michael Oliver following the Wolverhampton Wanderers v Arsenal fixture.
"No official should be subject to any form of abuse, let alone the abhorrent attacks aimed at Michael and his family over the past 24 hours."
They added that the police are aware and several investigations have begun. The PGMOL is supporting Michael and all those affected and is committed to tackling this unacceptable behaviour.
